| The Tarcoles River empties into the Pacific Ocean, which allows sealife to enter and exit. Mangrove trees flourish in both salt and fresh water in Costa Rica and thrive from nutrients carried down from the mountains. The mangroves support a myriad of wildlife, which include many different species of birds that are migratory, coastal or native to the area. In addition to the Mangrove River Cruise being a birdwatcher's paradise, the river is a home for the the American Crocodiles, that can grow to up to 4 meters (approx. 13')! The mangroves provide protection for the young species of fish and other sea life until they are old enough to return to the ocean. |
